Wicked Good!!
author: Al Cerkan
I had the special pleasure of seeing Mary Liz live at the Chicago Humanities Festival and bought her CD on the spot. If you can imagine a slice-of-life, Norman Rockwellian, Tom Waits, Ertha Kitt, Sondheim/Newman, "I've-lived-a-full-life-but-I-could-stand-some-more", blues/broadway/cabaret-fusion, you're on the right track... only it's more. One wicked good album!

This is an absolutely wonderful collection of very original, very witty, very poignant songs. It's the best I've run across in a long time.

Love this CD!
author: Diana Jones
I was introduced to this CD by a friend of the artist. I love it. It is relaxing to just listen to in the background but when really listening to it can be nostalgic and make you laugh. I love the creativity of the music and lyrics not to mention the quality of the vocalist voice.

Fine 'neo-cabaret' stuff!
author: Ed Goodstein
I hadn't heard McNamara before, but I'm very glad I got this record. She's definitely influenced I think by Sondheim and
Broadway, but also elements of Randy Newman, Carol King and blues. Some very clever songs-- some with odd twists like "Friday Night" (about a Satanist boyfriend) or an 'update' of "Oedipus," akin to & worthy successor of Tom Lehrer IMO. She does some interesting plays on words too. Overall, the ballads move me a little less, except the kinda Sondheimish "I Remember the Lake," but still good songwriting. MLM has a really pretty voice that's very expressive, but can also kinda wail blues (if in a reserved way). If (like me) you like cabaret,& stuff like Dave's True Story or Lascivious Biddies, you'll probably like this.
