Maurice Mattei - World On Fire Maurice is the most under-rated songwriter on the face of the planet. You will not be able to get his CD unless you live in
Cincinnati and even then you will have a hard time finding it. This is a "greatest hits" that was in my CD player on the morning of September 11 when I turned on my
CD as a distraction from the horror that I could not stop staring at on the TV. I didn't know what was in the CD player until the first line "Should you set the world on
fire I'd have but one concern. The one thing I'd desire would be to watch it burn." It was a poignant line before but much more so for someone standing next to a little
crappy TV not worth watching in his bedroom transfixed to the TV as thousands of people were burneed alive. I will never be the same and I have not listened to that CD
since because it mocks me and reminds me of that morning... and yet it is one of the most beautiful song I have ever heard.

Mr. Mattei has the real deal going - terrific lyrics, vocals, and guitar work - and his tight and powerful guitar style perfectly fit his plaintive wails and sharp melody. This was a hell of a performance. He plays on a surprisingly small instrument, too—no fancy gear here – that old guitar looked like it had seen way too much and probably could chat knowingly with B.B. King’s Lucille.
