Recorded by Michael McElroy's acclaimed 'Broadway Inspirational Voices', which consists of 50 cast members from popular Broadway shows, this uplifting album is an amalgam of traditional Christmas music, modern theatrical arrangements and jubilant vocals. It's the work of an All Star Team: the best of Broadway, energized by the passion of Gospel, sung by the finest collection of contemporary vocalists New York has to offer. That's an idea of what this exuberant, 15-song CD delivers. In many ways, the tracks convey the sensation of being at an actual concert, not the experience of listening to an album recorded in a studio. These songs will jump from your speakers. Michael McElroy
Michael came to New York City in May of 1990, after finishing his BFA in Theater from Carnegie Mellon University. His Broadway credits include The Wild Party, Rent, The Who's Tommy, Miss Saigon, Hair, Patti Lupone on Broadway, and The High Rollers Social Pleasure Club. National Tour: Sarafina. Off Broadway: NY Shakespeare Festival's Richard III with Denzel Washington, Violet (Playwright's Horizons: Drama Desk Nomination). Regional credits include Angels in America Pts i and II, Alley Theater; Fences, Riverside Theater; Dreamgirls, Pittsburgh Playhouse; Thunder Knocking on the Door, Minetta Reperatory Theater; Blue, Grammercy Theater. He was also a featured vocalist on "The Rosie O'Donnell Show." Michael is featured on CD recordings of The Who's Tommy, Blue, Violet, Thunder Knocking on the Door and Leslie Uggams' upcoming CD project. He founded the Broadway Gospel Choir in 1994, then founded the Broadway Inspirational Voices in 1999.
Broadway Inspirational Voices
The Broadway Inspirational Voices founded in December of 1999, is a gospel ensemble comprised of actors performing on and off Broadway. Some of the shows represented are Aida, Rent, Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast, Cabaret and Off-Broadway's Godspel, Hairspray, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Man of LaMancha, The Look of Love, The Producers, The Full Monty, Moma Mia, Dance of the Vampire, 42nd Street, Into the Woods. In addition, the choir has performed on "The Rosie O'Donnell Christmas Special," the Broadway Sings Elton John Benefit for Broadway Cares, the opening night party for Jesus Christ Superstar, The Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation Benefit, the "Tony Awards 2000" and OpSail 2000 on the 4th of July for President and Mrs. Clinton.
