Album Notes

Marvella McPartland along with Rouke Vanderveen and Ralph Huntley comprise the nucleus of the group known as "Lighten Up"...they are longtime musical buddies and cohorts in the Portland, Oregon area. The music they present is varied and ranges mainly in the blues, rock and jazz arena. The focus is on the joy of the moment. Music is a meditation for them and this perhaps is why there is a freshness and uplifting effect in their music. The album PORTAL is comprised of music that Marvella McPartland has written over her years in music and is arranged in such a way as to create an autobiography in music and verse. The experiences that are shared through the album, from the ridiculous to the sublime, are apt to spark a resonance in the listener as we have, most of us, been there and can relate.
