"I really liked making video games," explained guitarist Bryn Bennett after their show at Boston's Middle East Club, "but it turns out that your groupies are 13 year old boys."
The Model Sons were formed when three guys working at Irrational Games decided they needed more excitement in their lives. Before long they picked up drummer Anthony Mellace and began cranking out high decibel noise. "The Lies and the Money EP" is their first release.
"My mommy was a punk, my daddy was a rocker!" shouts singer Ian Vogel into the microphone. No one knows what he's talking about so we get back to our drinks.
The EP has been compared to everything from the Misfits to the Hot Snakes, to the Murder City Devils. It was released on the SincAudio label that is also home to NYC's Pilot To Gunner, and Boston's The Also-Rans.
Here is what the critics are saying:
"The disc mainlines a loud rock vein, pumping with post-hardcore punk thrash" - Jonathan Perry, Boston Globe
"Sensitive but drunk. Heavy on the riffs, but smart enough to know better. Nirvana, but not really. Unida, but not Kyuss. Rock? Oh definitely. No buts about it." - Sleazegrinder (voted Boston's #1 rock critic)
"The sound of the Model Sons is a combination of hard-hitting drums, bass lines with deep grooves (think Rage Against the Machine), evil-sounding guitars with clever interplay, and vocals that sound like a man at the end of his rope." - Kevin Hoskins, Northeast Performer
