Album Notes

Sheila and Jessie were two women who moved "back to the land" in the early 70's, semi-homesteaded in the hills of Northern California, and sang original country/oldtime songs about their pleasures and troubles. Sheila was a single mother; Jessie most of that time lived with her partner, her daughter's father, though later she too was a single mother. I'm Jessie, fiddler and singer (now a teacher, fiddler and storyteller), and Sheila died some years ago, but our wonderful album, "Music from the Hills" lives on. The songs are funny and poignant ("Libra Song," and "Beer and Wine"), political, ("Birth Control Blues" and "Me and the Law"), and just plain good! "Will We Know" -a country gospel song in the context of reincarnation being the norm, and "Does Anybody Care?"- an environmental anthem. The topics are still relevant, and I'm so glad to have a record of our lives back then, as well as of Sheila's voice and my not-too-bad fiddling! Enjoy, and good luck to us all!
