Modirn Music Sampler Vol 3 Review

by Jessica Sager, Planet Verge Magazine

Boasting a stellar lineup of the area's underground and independent scene, the Modirn Music Sampler, Volume 3 is a must have for anyone into up-and-coming rock. While some will argue that the huge variety of bands (there are twenty-one to choose from) could seem a bit daunting for someone unfamiliar with the scene, but is simultaneously necessary to give the same proverbial "wet behind the ears" crowd a taste of what they're missing. Particular highlights include tracks four (Jared Scharff and the Royals' "Stereo," a barnburner with some sweet guitar solos), five ("Memory" by Hero Pattern, a hand-clapping, danceable, catchy-as-hell raw rock song), and fourteen ("To Get Her Coin" by Dayglow, a refreshing, upbeat keyboard-powered number—by all chicks!--that will be stuck in your head until the volume four comes out).

All in all, the Modirn Music Sampler, Volume 3 is a great asset to any fan of independent music, a great asset to anyone who loves a good compilation (really, who needs Now 897,456?), and a killer CD to have handy if you've got both good musical taste and ADD.
