Album Notes

A sophisticated yet versatile package, Mojave is a contemporary jazz quintet based in Auckland, exploring jazz, latin, lounge and other energetic grooves.

This ensemble of accomplished musicians creates a sophisticated atmosphere with inimitable Mojave originals and tasteful arrangements of lounge standards with an energetic Latin styling.

The warm rhythmic groove of Mojave is constructed with the exuberant improvised flute playing of Trudy Lile, complemented by the suave, virtuosic piano solos of Kevin Field and Nathan Porter. Bassist Pete Thornley, the drums of Phil Cook and the expertly placed percussion of John Highsted, make up a cool, considerate and elegant rhythm section. Johannes Dimyadi adds a touch of relaxing and beautiful finger style guitar at the end.

As well as some refreshing originals, the music on this album consists of some classic jazz standards and songs attributed to several legendary musicians. . Bossa Nova Blues is a tribute to the composer, the late and great Herbie Mann. Hardly a gig goes by without a request for a song from Jethro Tull, as Living in the Past is brought into the new millennium. Fever, a song made famous by the late Peggy Lee is given some cool latin treatment

A ristretto is distinguished by its intense flavour and taste. "Restricted" espresso is for the true espresso lover, an extremely rich and robust coffee beverage. This is the most strong and concentrated of espressos.

Nice sounds

Very good flutist, with a pleasant jazzy sound and good solos. The pianist is also good. The drums are not as good and a litle loud in the mix, for my taste.
