Album Notes

MOJO ZYDECO is Vancouver Canada's only Zydeco band. The band's debut CD entitled ZYDIFIED, is aptly named. In March of 2001, two couples traveled to New Orleans for a holiday. Being musicians, they had heard about Zydeco music, but had never experienced it. Their New Orleans hosts, hearing of their interest in Zydeco music took them directly from the airport to the Rock n' bowl- New Orleans premier Zydeco venue. That night two Zydeco bands were playing at the same time on two stages- one upstairs, and one down stairs. This was the first time these folks had heard Zydeco, and, after spending much energy dancing and running between stages up and down those stairs, the two friends vowed to form a Vancouver Zydeco band upon their return. And they did. Armed with twenty Zydeco CD's, they returned home. Six months later, MOJO ZYDECO debuted at an outdoor festival. Band leader Randy Schultz conscripted the essential mix of Vancouver players featuring Jack Velker on accordion and keys, Dave Clairmont on bass, Martin Eade on drums, Jane Carnahan on rubboard, and himself on guitar and vocals. Their first performance left the crowd yelling for more. The crowd, and the band were truly ZYDIFIED.

The following March, MOJO ZYDECO went to New Orleans and was booked into, among other venues, the Rock n' bowl- the very club that had inspired them to pursue the dream of Zydeco. The thrill of performing at this prestigious venue was further heightened by the support and encouragement given by dancers and other Zydeco musicians who witnessed the event.

In March of 2003, MOJO ZYDECO returned to Louisiana- this time to record their debut CD. Produced by Morris Ledet, a major Louisiana Zydeco force, the album was recorded in Crowley Louisiana at a historic studio tucked away in the Southwest. The album features twelve Zydeco songs- ten originals, and two Zydeco classics by legendary Clifton Chenier and Buckwheat Zydeco. ZYDIFIED marks the testimony and commitment of MOJO ZYDECO to deliver the power and energy of Zydeco music to Western Canada and beyond. The songs are written in the true spirit of Zydeco and speak to topics of work, love-lost and new, Zydeco music itself, dance and celebration.

Since the bands' inception, MOJO ZYDECO has been called to play at numerous clubs, festivals and private functions. The band is known for their party spirit, and has brought good times, New Orleans style, to Vancouver Mardi Gras parties. Making new friends all the time, MOJO ZYDECO is spreading the news about Zydeco to a part of the world ready for something new and exciting in entertainment. Connecting with the Zydeco dance scene in Seattle, the band has brought the Zydeco dance style to Vancouver, and offers lessons to their audiences.

To everyone everywhere who purchases MOJO ZYDECO's debut album, the band asks that where ever you play it- in your car, at home, or at work - you crank it up. Lessez les bon temps roule. Let the good times roll!
