Truer words were never expressed. These are the sentiments of MOMO FAMILY, the sensational Italian rock band comprised of Daniel Melani (vocals and piano), Federico Bartolozzi (guitars and programming), and Marco Alessandri (drums and piano).
MOMO FAMILY has come a long way since their early days in a barren recording studio in Tuscany, Italy. If you had asked these three bad boys back then, “How do you foresee your future?” it’s unlikely they would have envisioned the new reality that has emerged from their early dreams.
Let’s take a quick look back at those earlier days. Back then they were simply called “MOMO”, consisting of Federico, Daniel, and Leandro Denti, their first drummer, all set out to meld Rock music with Electric and Funk. They honed their songwriting skills and soon began to gain recognition in their home country. Then tragedy struck.
The premature death of drummer Leandro Denti in 2005 deeply affected the band. With combined resolve, the remaining members pledged to keep the flame alive and they recruited Marco Alessandri to replace Leandro. In collaboration with bassist Marco Brini, they proceeded to record their first album, “LEDEN”, as a tribute to Leandro. The CD was released by Madamadore’/EDEL in Italy, and it quickly earned accolades from their fans and interest within the Italian music industry.
The success of “LEDEN” encouraged the band to seek new management and they recruited Serena Albini of Florence. They added the word “Family” to their name. Their new identity, MOMO FAMILY, is the band’s way of paying their sincerest tribute to all of their fans. Their fans are an integral part of the “MOMO Family”.
Under their new management, MOMO FAMILY released a new single and music video, “Viva Barcelona”. The song and video were broadcast on Italian radio and television stations and will soon be re-released with English lyrics.
As MOMO FAMILY began to gain recognition in other foreign countries they received a proposal from Gary Steffins and TuneStuff Records in the USA to record their first CD with English lyrics. Eager to expand their international exposure, Daniel, Federico, and new drummer Marco flew to Atlanta, along with their friend and studio bassist Luca Silvestri, in October, 2007, and proceeded to record a new 14-song CD at Groove Tunes Studios in Alpharetta, Georgia. The album was engineered and produced by Eric Tunison, mixed in collaboration with Alex Lowe of Atlanta and Ben Frassinelli of Italy, and mastered by Rodney Mills of Atlanta. On breaks, between their recording sessions at Groove Tunes Studios, the band played several local venues, gaining exposure with the Atlanta Rock scene and stimulating the curiosity of the American public.
The new CD, entitled “GIMME MOMO!”, released September, 2008, expresses their fans’ emotion when they hear the band play – they want more! This is an album that reflects the inherent nature of human beings – from passion to pain, from love to lust. With its driving rhythms, powerful guitars, and cool electronic sounds, combined with creative melodies, thoughtful lyrics, and expressive vocals, the songs on this latest release resonate in special ways with their listeners.
Back in Italy currently, MOMO FAMILY is preparing to depart again for the USA for an extended tour of The States. They are also slated to take part in a new “reality show” while on their tour.
