Unusual, weird, ethnic, worldbeat.
Shades of David Byrne and Frank Zappa.
All this from a mysterious woman named Lucy Mongrel.
You will hear African, Cuban, Brazilian and Spanish rhythms filter through the music of Lucy and her group of musicians. (Music which they choose to call Mongrel Music.)
Come on and hang over the musical ledge and howl to the weird tunes written by the full moon.
The musicians (including Lucy), performing on "Mongrel", have long musical histories, appearing with such notables as Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Nils Lofgren, Etta James, Brain Auger, Jimmy Page, The Kingsmen and Duke Ellington. Collectively they have been the recipients or nominated for over thirty musical awards!
Calling all adventurous musical ears. You WILL love this CD. Recommended by CD Baby staff.

I listened to Lucy Mongrel and it knocked me out! What a daring change of pace. This album needs to get out to the world. ‘Who’s Been Sleeping In My Bed’ oddly reminds me of the theme song to an obscure spaghetti western called MANAJA, scored by the elusive and weird De Angelis Brothers.

Hi, I’m going to say something that you’ve probably heard before, I love Lucy’s stuff but I’m not sure if I wanna risk my ass releasing it in the UK, though if “Max the Circus Cat” doesn’t get at least a single of the week, well………You’ll have to wait for my devil to gnaw away at me a bit more…..will keep in touch….let me know if there are any plans to come to the UK. Check out Dufus….a joint tour over here with them would be wonderful…..Thanks

Call it an appealing oddity. She sounds like Lene Lovich, and there are plenty of '80s touches on this disc, but also a global sensibility to the rhythms that takes it out of the retro-New Wave category. While not for everyone, it should appeal to those with suitably twisted minds

Lucy Mongrel is a musical endeavor that you may need to be sitting down and concentrating on to fully soak in all of its splendor and mystery. Headed up by Kate Hart, this 14 track disc is an eclectic mix of world beat, folk, blues and pop-rock that delves into diverse styles and displays many sounds that our American ears may not be privy to ("Quicksand Passion", "Thank You"). Hart's soothing ("Don't Call It Too Late", "Papa Legba") and disjointed ("Meet In The Streets") vocals are a standout here, as they set the mood for each individual song, making the album a true collection of 14
unique songs. Lucy Mongrel bridges the gap between musical and cultural boundaries much like Paul Simon and Peter Gabriel have in the past by implementing many different culture's sounds and instrumentation. Where else can you hear bagpipes and banjos intertwine? If you're looking for something that's way out in left field but spiritually uplifting and an overall musical triumph, look no further than this eponymous disc.
