Windstorm - the word connotes a soulful howling in the country. Monica, backed by her band, Windstorm, brings her various influences of rock, pop, country and jazz into this exciting set of original country material featuring the rousing opening song and tribute to Chicago, "For All the World", followed by the rockabilly "Count to Three", selected by Insider Magazine for their 1996 compilation disk, the traditional ballad, "Somebody's Memories" and the Allman Brothers influenced "Destiny". The mournful ballad "Woke Up In Time" continues an eclectic mix of country. The album contains a fine mix of what country was and is today, including the country rocker "Writing in a Windstorm", the ballad, "Rocking Chair" and the decidedly western country swing of "Effervescence". The album concludes with the gentle swing of "Say Goodbye To Questions", multiple guitar jam of "If Must Be You", the R&B flavored "Anything Good", closing out with the spiritual "He Is the Strongest".
Featuring a collection of string specialists including Stephen Arens on the various Pedal and Dobro Steel guitars, John Sizos on mandolin, Paul Bell (from the garage punk band, Mere Mortals), Tom Henrichsen on the blazing Tele, Jeff Martin on acoustic, Chris West on lap steel, John Zelisko on nylon and Gary Jinks (from Decadcence).
MONICA JINKS - A piano performance major from Roosevelt University, Monica's singing career began with solo church work in her teens. Performing with several cover and original pop, rock and jazz bands during the 80's, including Tandem Deluxe, Mere Mortals, Now and Forever, High Definition and Samba City. She formed the original band Windstorm and recorded her album, "Somebody's Memories" for Savagery Records, featuring the single "Count to Three" for the Insider Magazine sampler.
She also formed her own Big Band and recorded a collection of Judy Garland Swing Charts. Her jazz band, Martini Island, is in constant demand. As a seasoned studio background singer and as a fixture on the jazz club scene, Monica can be found singing and playing piano or even the accordion. She is currently featured on the new crazy and comic Flashpot Theater musical, "Think of the Possibilities" coming out in October 2003.
