Monica Taft Biography

Monica's compelling vocals are uniquely sophisticated, sensual, and strong. Her lyrics are rich in visual imagery, undeniable wit, and intelligence, while her voice possesses sultry and exotic flavors. Songs that typically make you stop, listen and think about what you are hearing; songs easily recognizable, with catchy musical hooks and phrasing that linger in memory long after the song ends. Monica's vocals are versatile, full, and lustrous, capable of satisfying lively pop, smoky sensuous jazz and blues stylings, or soulful intimate and expressive ballads. This unique combination of writing style and vocal characteristics, places Monica in the circle of untapped exceptional talents, and a match for contemporary artists like Sheryl Crow, Dianna Krall, and Nora Jones, Sarah McLachlan.

Born in New England, Monica Taft graduated from a local college with honors. While attending college, Monica studied Classical and Broadway works extensively, lending her strong vocals to several choirs and choruses, and performed in several local musical productions. In addition, she has studied and played piano for over 20 years, and is currently attending Berklee College of Music. A passionate and a deep appreciation of great vocalists and songwriters like Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, Ricki Lee Jones, Chrissie Hinds, Sade, Gladys Knight, Marvin Gaye, Donald Fagan, and Stevie Wonder have influenced Monica's writing and vocal style.
