Album Notes

I began singing at the age of four when my father, a minister, discovering that I could carry a tune, stood me in a cane-back chair and accompanied me on his guitar while I sang for the congregation. Throughout my childhood, my family sang at countless revivals and camp meetings, providing me an extensive training ground for the development of my talent. My dad started me out on guitar at age twelve, and I began writing songs when I learned three chords. I honed my musical abilities in the following years by playing in several country-rock bands in numerous clubs and roadhouses throughout the southeast. Sacred Ground is my first album…I did it all…….vocals of course, instruments, mastering in my little home studio. This album is a collection of songs written as a result of different life experiences and emotions……from .Jesse's store, a song about an old country store in the North Carolina mountains, to the title track, Sacred ground, written when I desperately needed to walk away from a dead-end love affair. I reside in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina. If you listen closely, you can hear the sounds of these mountains in my music. "Monica's songs are elusive storms, those secret places we visit that are uplifting but tinged somehow with sadness……places we find our way back to……through her music." Phibby Venable Appalachian poet
