When The Pigeon Flies is the 7th release by bassist/song writer Monique Ortiz. All but one of the tracks are live and mostly improvised. The songs were compiled over a month of shows at her favorite pub, the Plough & Stars in Cambridge, MA, and New Alliance studio. Guest musicians include her A.K.A.C.O.D. bandmates Larry Dersch and Morphine saxophonist Dana Colley, as well as Mission Of Burma guitarist Roger Miller. Monique is best known for carrying on the Low Rock style and tradition of her hero, the late Morphine frontman Mark Sandman. However, evident with this release, Monique is coming into her own with a 2-string slide bass sound that is a bit more aggressive and tonally different from the Morphine sound.
Monique continues to perform and record music with her Boston bandmates, but now has a new pwer trio in Austin, texas called Secret Trains.
