Have you ever heard a singer and wondered why you never heard of them before? They're so phenomenal and seasoned that you imagine they must have been hiding in another universe...or at least another country. Monique Steele is such a singer. Born in Montréal and raised in Alberta, Canada, Monique was influenced by the music of both her Jamaican parents and the many styles of music available to her in Calgary. Karen Clark Sheard and Mahalia Jackson are among her favorite Gospel artists. Enjoying their music throughout the years, she managed to carve out an approach to singing that is all her own, captivating and liberating audiences everywhere whether performing gospel, jazz, or classical songs. She is a bright, fun-loving, energetic person whose personality is expressed each time she witnesses through song.
Monique obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Performance from Columbia Union College. Since graduating in 1999, she has embarked upon a career of full-time music ministry. She has shared the stage with numerous artist including Ben Tankard, Darryl Coley, John Stoddart, Joey Kibble, and been a guest soloist with numerous choirs. Her first album of inspirational music, Nearer to Thee, was released while she was still in college. Her current release, The Monique Steele Project provides gospel lovers a chance to hear how amazing her vocal texture, range, and expression are.
Full-time music ministry is not easy, but Monique is energetic and committed to witnessing through song. "I would like my music to draw people closer to God and win souls to Christ," says the Silver Spring, Maryland, resident. "My prayer is that the Lord will continue to use me so that others will always see Christ through me." She genuinely shows a love for God each time she sings, and her prayer is that God will touch your life through hers.
