Who is Moni Rashad?
Artist, Writer, Poet, Actress, Singer, Activist, Producer, Servant in HIS Will!
Monica “Moni Rashad” Thomas
ARTIST/WRITER/ACTIVIST
She began singing at the age of 6 with the “Little Angels Choir” in the Bronze Ville community until age 12. After modeling runway and Print for local designers in Chicago and New York, she attended Columbia College where she cultivated her skills in writing, singing and entertainment marketing. As an intern she developed a fine arts curriculum for The Loop Lab School in downtown Chicago. She wrote and Co-starred in her first play “Forgotten Pearls” for the Legacy Theater in Blue Island that ran for 15 months.
Today as a singer writer and activist, she uses her gifts to reach, teach and encourage the new generation. Using the words of experience, her gifts have penetrated into the souls of every generation. From the inside of the prison walls incarcerating our men and children, to the grandmothers, leaders and Hip-Hop culture as a whole; Moni’s soul wrenching lyrics and passion for peace are delivered with pure sincerity and a reverence for the will of God.
Today, as Program Manager at the Wyatt Community and Family Life Center’s after school program, she’s able to cultivate young minds through cultural arts. As a member of the Task Force Community Net Work, she exercises her role as female youth leader implementing character development workshops and exercises using an approach from the Hip Hop perspective. The TFCNW has been recognized on several occasions on Fox News as a teaching clinical play that transforms the minds of this urban generation of Hip-Hop. Moni’s approach to the Hip Hop Detoxx is celebrated among her peers as a tool for encouraging love, respect and unity between women.
She is celebrated among her peers as one of Chicago’s top performing artist and emerging activist: using the stage to encourage those who don’t know Christ while teaching through song and poetry.
