Modern life and the sometimes waning American culture are reflected, exposed and generally made fun of without being high brow by this album by Monkey Bones. For example, the title track: "Television" sarcstically slams the often perverse culture and obsession of reality TV. Other songs deal with sweet real life stories ("Magic") and some with dark real life stories ("Rock Me"is about an obsessed husband portrayed on an episode of "Dr. Phil"). "The Answer" is a powerful and clever track that deals with addiction in a totally unique way (check it out). "Sunny Rays" makes you want to drive with the top down! In all, Monkey Bones is about solid, guitar based, smart Rock and Roll! These are songs you will come back to again and again - Memorable Rock and Roll!
Formed in the underground rock mecca of Tulsa, Oklahoma (see, Leon Russell, J.J. Cale, Elvin Bishop, Dwight Twilley) Monkey Bones was formed by Michael Barkett and Alan Bates - two high school friends who decided music was too important in thier lives to ignore. Barkett, a lawyer by day, and Bates, a Civil Engineer, decided that making great rock and roll was thier true calling and decided to get back to what they love the most - making great songs and playing high energy live shows. Tired of the "standardized" format for modern pop, Monkey Bones focuses on hard rock energy, intellegent lyrics, and hooky choruses. Monkey Bones brings to the table all thier collective influences which include big doses of bands like The Who, Cheap Trick, Stone Temple Pilots, Aerosmith, and other hard rockers who didn't happen to forget melody, meaningful lyrics, and hooks!
