Album Notes

This is the CD you've heard on NPR!

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY says: "If you like the previous administration, cast your chad for AL GORE's vocal cameo on "Al Gore", an homage by Tennessee band MONKEY BOWL"

Renowned Detroit music writer Eric A. Harabadian says "one of the best song-driven releases I've heard in a long time! Very clever songwriting with great melodies, wry lyrics and harmonies that bring to mind classic pop like Beach Boys, Beatles, Badfinger and Todd Rundgren...to name a few"

Monkey Bowl is a "simply wonderful debut" says critic Robert K.Oermann in music industry bible Music Row Magazine.
"This jaunty Nashville band may be the only act in town that isn't taking itself dead seriously."

The NEW YORKER says "Monkey Bowl is a cross between the Fugs and Ali G.!"

Q: Who is Monkey Bowl?
A: Here is what we know so far: Monkey Bowl is the band project of Bob Something.
Q: Who is Bob Something?
A: He's the lead singer of Monkey Bowl. He's responsible for string noise and amp buzz as well as guitars, pianos, loops and most of the sounds you hear on this CD.
Q: Why should we care?
A: Because Monkey Bowl's "Plastic 350" will set you up and knock you down! It will help you to understand the world in which you live. And because it's the only album that includes the songs "Be Nice To Your Parents," "Hip Hop the Bunny" and "Al Gore."
Q: "Al Gore?"
A: Yes and on the song that bears his name "Al Gore" makes his rock recording debut in a special appearance.
Q: Why?
A: Well, if you listen to the song, you'll know why.
Q: What else can I learn from the new Monkey Bowl album?
A: You'll learn about stupid man things, why books suck and why everyone needs a plastic 350.
Q: What's a "Plastic 350?"
A: It's the new album from Monkey Bowl.
Q: Who is Monkey Bowl?
A: You asked us that already.

The lead singer and backups give a flawless vocal performance. Harmonies are fantastic. Everything about this cd draws you in and makes you want to sing along. The writing and production is about as fresh and inventive as any I've heard in a great while with tracks that bubble over with subtle surprises both lyrically and musically. In addition several songs make meaningful statements, especially Stupid Man Things and Al Gore. A true delight! Nothing plastic about this offering except the cd and the case. Give us more!

Every song is great. How often does that happen?

Every song on this CD is great. EVERY SONG! They are just at slightly variable levels of greatness! My favorites, in order, are 1. Suddenly 2. Closer 3. Be Nice To Your Parents 4. Stupid Man Things 5. Al Gore 6. Life Is Calling 7. Love Song 8. Books Suck 9. Hip Hop The Bunny 10. Plastic 350. I like Plastic 350 more than just about any song on the radio right now and it's on the BOTTOM OF THE LIST!! That's how good this is. I checked out the Something Jones CD and like that, too. It's Bob Something from Monkey Bowl and Ben Jones. Get it? Something Jones! OK back to this CD. You should get it, it will make your life happier.
