New review of REAL by Blues Bunny
Monogroove
Real
No catalogue number
2006
They have more influences than BluesBunny has had curries. You have the Byrds, Dylan, the Kinks and the Beatles. Not a bad thing though. This album is 12 tracks of jangly, commercial, guitar pop. Monogroove have had many vocalists during their rather long existence but Diana Grace has a particularly good set of lungs that suit the songs well. On this album she shares vocal duties with founder Rin Lennon even doing a duet on the respectful cover of "I've Just Seen a Face".
"Just You" opens the album with a neat slice of pure pop candy. "Gave Me Your Life" delivers quality harmonies, an unforgettable hook and fine trumpet work from Probyn Gregory. "Our Time Will Come" displays mature lyrical sensibilities whilst "Can't Go Back Again" makes a fine accompaniment to that drive into the sunset. BluesBunny keeps seeing the ghost of sixties' London in all of this with a sizeable pinch of California for seasoning.
Derivative but fresh, Monogroove shows the quality we have come to expect from them. Plenty to keep you humming during that long drive to work. Available from CD Baby.

Monogroove has been cited as having many influences, such as: the Beatles, the Kinks, Bob Dylan and the Byrds. You can definitely hear the infusion of these different styles when listening to their recent release, Real. Rin Lennon and Diana Grace share the lead vocals while Scott Halper and Rob Cournoyer push out the drums & bass that make Monogroove’s sound both driving and melodic. The excellent use of trumpet on this album is provided courtesy of Probyn Gregory, which brings the grooves to a much higher vibe similar to those found in the mid-to-late 60’s rock era. Real is an album that showcases hard-driving grooves, blissful vocal harmony and a retro vibe that makes for one great listen!----

GREAT STUFF!" - Lee Joseph, Dionysus Records. Monogroove has been featured on the Local Licks radio program hosted by Terry Gladstone on station KLOS and been selected by Music Connection magazine as one of The Hot 100 Unsigned Artists. “Their songs “Wonder Who She Is” and “In My Mind” seem to have definite commercial appeal”
-Bob Leggett---Music Connection Magazine
livemagazine.com " ..."Grace is a charismatic, take charge lead singer; a diminutive but ear and eye catching centerpiece, unafraid to move or throw her high and mighty voice to all corners of the room"-Scott Benarde, Ft.Lauderdale News/Sun Sentinel. Monogroove creates hard-charging rock with truckloads of vocal harmony." "Serving as proof that a band can play aggressively and still retain sugary harmonies ... They’re capable of producing scorching numbers whose melodies never get lost in the shuffle. And, if one can get past the fact that these guys and gals don’t play too rigidly along categorical lines, then Monogroove has some serious chops to dig into." Albert Vega, Music Connection "Feel Good Band" Lennon was a tough no holds barred guitarist, who played as if her life depended on it, creating such heavy grooves you could hardly sit still" Bernard Baur, M.C. Magazine. "This group also make good use of dual lead vocals" Bob Leggett—M.C. Mag.

Pure quality guitar pop
author: BluesBunny
Here we have 13 tracks of pure, quality guitar pop music. Monogroove sound like descendants of the Byrds and the Mamas and the Papas with a pinch of Mexico thrown in. It is always good to hear tight harmonies and there are plenty here. The guitar work of Rin Lennon and Hector Garcia is also merit worthy.
Tracks like “Let Me Come” and “White Man’s World” will stick in your mind for ages. Best track is their very commercial rendition of “It’s Getting Harder”. Just the stuff to play in your convertible on a hot summer day.
This is a bouncy, good natured album that you make you smile and leave you humming the tunes. You can’t really ask for more than that.
