Album Notes

When Monroe Alfrey's son Simon was born, he picked up his guitar and began singing to him. Over time, traditional tunes gave way to songs written just for Simon - full of whimsy and parental feeling. Friends and family overheard these songs and urged Monroe to record them. The result is the 10-song CD "Simon's Pond", which garnered national acclaim and awards in its original 1996 release.
"Simon's Pond" makes delightful family listening, with 10-sing-along pop-style original songs like "Daddy's Tools," "The Monkey and the Lion," and "Whimsical Dr. Imsical." The title song is a tribute to Alfrey's son, Simon. The recording won an "outstanding" commendation from Parent council, Ltd., and Los Angeles Times called it "stunning" and applauded the "vivid word pictures, humorous nonsense verses and soulful ballads, done in country, R&B and rock-oldie style" Alfrey recorded the album in Rochester, Indiana with music producer Brent

"Congratulations! One or more of your new titles was selected as outstanding from a learning perspective ..."
Carolyn Henebry, Review Editor, PARENT COUNCIL, LTD.

" 'THE MONKEY AND THE LION' was awarded an honorable mention in our 2003 competition. Only a small percentage of the thousands of entries received are recognized with this award."
Chris DeCo, JOHN LENNON SONGWRITING CONTEST.

"This delightful release is a labor of love by an Indiana plumber named Monroe Alfrey, whose hobby is songwriting and whose inspiration is his toddler son, Simon. There's nothing amateurish, however, about Alfrey's vivid word pictures, humorous nonsense verses and soulful ballads, done in country, R&B and rock-oldie style."
