Mat created Mons as an outlet for his lifelong love of sound. In particular, the sounds of fuzz boxes, drums, drum machines, vintage synths as well as the cheapest Casios, theremins, vocoders and randomly captured conversations comprise but a few of the tools in his arsenal. Over the course of 3 albums, including Stimulus Frequency For The Localization of Sound in Space, to be released in 2004, a wide array of sounds, textures and tones have resulted from his chaotic yet pure approach. Mons continues to be exclusively a studio recording endeavor from inside the confines of his Washington, D.C.-based Olympus Mons Studios.

A genre-defying release

A genre-defying release from Washington D.C. based artist Mons, who also owns the startup label Olympus Mons. The album explores the worlds of noise, industrial and idm, and there's also some psych/surf rock thrown in at the end. The music is best, I beieve, when he sticks to more traditional, beat-oriented pieces, as in 3,4, and 8... ...though 7 and the secret track are quite good. Overall, a pleasingly weird collection of music from a guy who seems like a pretty interesting character.

experiments in synthesis gone wrong, very often in a good way :>

this cd sounds as though somebody took some highly coddled rare analogue synthesizers and beat them into a pile of transistors. as junos and jupiters howl in pain, a few tracks rise up from the carnage and crescendo into sweet harmony. whilst most tracks are very esoteric, a crucial few find a tight accessable groove and leave the listener thoroughly satiated.
