ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
New Monsoon combines the rhythmic elements of world percussion with energetic acoustic and electric guitar work and a distinctive vocal style. The infectious grooves are propelled by Afro-Cuban and Indian percussion, and influenced by funk, latin, blues and bluegrass forms.

New Monsoon's music always draws appreciative comments from fans of Santana, The Allman Brothers and Dave Matthews. The band has also earned the admiration of acoustic music lovers by blending unique acoustic textures from banjo, dobro and didgeridoo into their sonic repertoire. The dynamic interplay between acoustic and electric instruments, strong vocals and insightful lyrics, and the infusion of North Indian and Afro-Cuban rhythms form a sound never before heard in the Jam Rock world!

Unique new sound....killer chops....excellent recording!
I'm really impressed by this San Francisco Bay area band, and this debut album is dynamite. Really unique blend of Rock, Funk, Latin and Blues rhythms with solid acoustic and electric guitar work. These are world-class musicians, and they seem to have found a new pallete to play with.....Indian tabla, congas, timbales, etc. used in bluegrass(!), funk, rock and jazz constructions. Great songs, especially the vocal pieces sung by Heath (bass), that I suspect will find the way to the airwaves, and brilliant folk/rock/jammin' instrumentals featuring masterful acoustic guitar work, and probably the best new electric guitarist I've heard in the last decade. Excellent recording quality despite being a self-produced (read "low budget") debut album, but I'm willing to bet the next one will show up on a major label.

Excellent listening, this band is going places!
I thoroughly dug this album-highly recommend it and appreciate that it involves only human elements and is not a computerized nightmare, but a group of talented musicians putting in the time to make some quality sound!

New Monsoon...catch the wave!
New Monsoon's first full-length self-produced studio effort, Hydrophonic, is an *excellent* debut. The CD flows very nicely with five instrumental and six vocal tracks. "Before I Begin" sounds 100% AAA radio-ready, so don't *just* call this band a "jamband". Check out those tasty instrumentals...the blazing and twisting and turning "Country Interlude", the gorgeous "Cypress" and the amazing "Drivewheel". Check out this fine CD by this soon-to-skyrocket Bay Area band. Even the cover art and packaging is 100% professional (all design by the vocalist and bassist, Heath Carlisle). Get one of these and let Bo, Brian, Heath, Jeff, Marty, Phil and Raja take you on a Hydrophonic journey!

Ya gotta get it!
New Monsoon is unique, but if I had to fit it into a category, I would say they are a mix of DMB/Santana/Bella Fleck. It is music you can listen to while doing nothing or everything and listen again and again. I loved it.

You betta put two hands in it!
Hyrophonic. Imagine the best bowl of queso you've ever had, and you just ran out of chips... The queso is so good you simply decide to put your hand in it. Well, Hyrophonic is so good, you betta put two hands in it!
