Album Notes

Originally from Vancouver, I moved to the UK and started playing London's (UK) acoustic circuit a few years ago. I set up my own music and short film night in Brick Lane's Vibe Bar, where I met Ian Button, guitarist in Death in Vegas, who went on to produce this album, Montana Hi-Rise.

I wrote these 7 songs on acoustic guitar and then worked with Ian to produce them with a full band sound. I wanted them to have an electronic feel with dirty distorted guitars, as one of my biggest musical influences growing up was Depeche Mode.

My voice has been compared to the gravely rasp of Chryssie Hynde or Sheryl Crow. My songs are melodic and a bit moody. They are for people who want to feel something when they listen to music.

I have supported many great acts in London, including Cat Power, Skin (Skunk Anasie) and Damien Rice. I also played the 2002 V Festival and Manchester's, In the City.

This album recalls a 5 a.m. drive through empty streets, like you're alone among everyone, waiting for the dawn.

It's been a while since I've found a album that's stayed in my stereo non stop...this is the one. I love this cd, I love this music!

A refreshingly haunting and fantastic album.

I received this CD in the post after listening to a few clips of the tracks on Selena's website, so I kind of already had some expectations before playing the entire album. But what I heard exceeded my expectations on a large scale! I don't usually like to compare artists to one another as I believe people should be looked at for their own individuality, and not how similar they are to someone else, but if you imagine a cross between Sarah Mclachlan's laid back and moody tracks with Alanis Morissette's talent for writing, you come as close as you can to Selena Harrington's Montana Hi-Rise. That's the best comparison I can think of, but how ironic that I compare her to two fellow Canadians! I have my own personal favourites from the CD, but I'm not going to list them. Listen to it yourself and draw your own thoughts from it. If you're reading this for some advice as to whether or not to buy this CD, then I advise you... buy it! You certainly won't regret it.

Each song can take you anywhere you want to go

I saw Selena at a 'Skin' gig in Middlesborough, UK, her voice is amazing, I then found the CD and after listening to this album many times, i feel that each song can take you away to a different time in space. This CD has vocals from an excellent singer who sounds likes she really feels what she is singing about, which is hard to find these days, and superb music from a legend in the music business. The CD can come over as too hard to understand for people who are fans of 'pop' music, but those 'indie' fans can close their eyes while the music can take them away and say 'wow' while rock fans can listen to the songs and say that they understand. Every song on this album sounds as though it has been worked on very hard, and it certainly pays off! Some people may think that the lyrics might need to be a bit happier, but whose heart can forget sadness?
