Album Notes

Monte Moir is a singer/songwriter, producer and one of the original members of the innovative R&B group The Time. The group is best known for it's hits "The Bird" and Jungle Love" from the Prince movie "Purple Rain". They have also recently appeared in the movie "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back."

As a songwriter and producer, he has had a number of hits including Janet Jackson's, "The Pleasure Principle" (from her grammy nominated CD) and Alexander O'Neal's, "If You Were Here Tonight."

"This Side Of Paradise" is a mature debut replete with all the trappings that have made Monte Moir a well-known name-at least in music industry circles. Lush melodies and syncopated arrangements call to mind such artists as Michael McDonald, Paul Simon and Boz Scaggs, but Moir's debut as a vocalist makes each track shimmer with individuality and heartfelt emotion. He is now also making plans for his first shows as a solo artist.

Phat Laid-back vibe!
author: Darrell "D-Funk" Looney
This is the source cat for the smooth vibe we all heard growing up and listening to music by the "Time". It's mature music with a strongly creative edge that could easily cross genres. Give us MORE Monte!

This ain't yo daddy's Time album!
author: Ernest L Sewell, Iv @ The Ernest Experience Radio Show
Monte Moir was a founding member of The Time whose hits have included "The Walk", "Cool", "Jungle Love", "777-9311", "Jerk Out" and "The Bird". But Monte's first solo CD is far from the funk of The Time. Without sticking Moir to "sounds like" statements, I will say that if you like singers like James Taylor or Jim Croce, you'll love "This Side of Paradise". The songs are gentle, but far from boring. His hooks are catchy, and you find yourself singing the tunes when the CD is over. There are some smooth ballads, as well as great mid-tempo tunes. This CD is perfect for a Sunday afternoon, or just an evening home w/ the one you love. Check out tracks like "On My Way Home", "For Want And Desire", "All Right By Me" and the title track. The package as a whole works well. The songs flow perfectly from one to the next. Moir's craft of song writing is not only evident on this freshman solo project, but is also in need of the question "Why not sooner?" His talents as keyboard player for The Time were shown in some regards, but after hearing this CD, you realize they've also been hidden. When it comes to that of being a piano player and songwriter, you realize Moir is in his prime on this album. The Time continues to tour, but a great contrast to the machismo of that, is the warmth of this CD. If you don't have it now, GET IT! ...Keep up the good work Monte!

Refreshingly Nostalgic Grown Folks Music
author: Bernard
Monte Moir has produced a wonderful cd, that easily transcends the most today's banal music. Being a big fan of The Time, I found This Side of paradise quite soothing and thank God without gimmicks. If you ever wanted to know what music was like without gimmicks than give the cd a listen and support a really down to earth and nice guy.

Very refreshing to listen to. Great for background or sing-a-long.
author: Deni Carruth
Everytime I listen to this CD, I love it more. Monte is brilliant. I love the music, the vocals and the variety of the songs. The words hold so much meaning...in many ways. I can play this CD as background when my clients exercise, or in the car when I'm driving around. The variety allows me to walk down memory lane and smile, or laugh and be crazy. It's definately a must have for always. It will never be dated.
