Dr. Monte Selby’s distinctive work spans over two decades and has impacted participants from North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. He is widely popular for his practical, humorous, and engaging presentations—the keynote speaker for dozens of state, national, and international conferences—but is perhaps best known for his music. As a critically acclaimed songwriter and recording artist, he shares comical and insightful music for children, parents, and educators. His musical endeavors (featured on network television, radio, pod casts, websites, original stage productions, and videos) are cultivated from an award-winning career as a teacher, principal, and professor.

His contributions as an author include articles and books for educators, books for children, and a leadership column for Middle Ground magazine. Two recent books (Incentive Publications) include Because You Teach (a 2006 book/CD of innovative staff development activities) and Middle School Matters (a 2007 book/CD of engaging classroom learning activities). “That’s What I Need! Book/CD uses song lyrics to Teach and Practice the Six Traits of Effective Writing. (2008) Incentive Publications

The latest CD for educators, In the Teacher’s Lounge, is Selby’s 6th album (2006, MDM Records, Nashville). Don’t Eat Cactus Cookies CD/Book: Music, Movement & More for Early Language Learners (2007) and “How Does It Do What It Does” CD/Book Music, Movement & More for Early Science Learners (2008) from Frog Street Press, Inc

Monte lives in historic Council Grove, Kansas with his wife Michelle and their children. Monte and Michelle are dedicated school/community volunteers and have served on numerous professional and interagency boards at the state and local level.
