Dana "Moon" Kahele, Father, Grandfather and blessed with Pure Hawaiian ancestry was born in Hawai'i the second youngest of nine children. His exposure to all types of music was inspired at an early age by his parents, the late John and Lucille, three brothers and five sisters. During his upbringing, never a day passed when he was not tinkering on an instrument or singing out loud to the music on the radio. He left the Islands to pursue a career in law enforcement broadening his exposure to different styles of music and along the way he began writing his own tunes. The Ki Ho'alu, "Slack Key" or open-chord, guitar style of playing was inspired by his own Uncle, Jonah Kipi, Uncle Charlie to the Ohana (family). At family gatherings Uncle Charlie accompanied Moon's parents and relatives singing into the late hours of the evening while their children slept, except for one. So, from the child who laid awake on those nights dreaming of playing "slack key" himself one day, Moon share's his music with you. Come as he takes you on..."A WALK ACROSS THE OCEAN."

Aloha Moon,
We had the privilege to hear you perform on the "Island of Arizona" at the Aloha Kitchen in Mesa. It was wonderful to have a little piece of Hawaii in the Desert! We listen to your CD in the Car all the time.
Thank you again and since we are locals at the Aloha kitchen now, we might see you again.

"A WALK ACROSS THE OCEAN" by Moon Kahele
• Genre: Hawaiian slack key (with some vocals).
• Distinguishing notes: Dana "Moon" Kahele is a Hawaiian musician who works with his band, Ka Hele Kane O Hawai'i, on what he calls "the island of Arizona." He has a valid appreciation of ki ho'alu, the guitar-strumming technique that has become a widely accepted art form. His instrumentals are a lot more eloquent than his vocals, but consider that he's got the spirit and desire to maintain his Island foothold in Arizona. The CD title literally means he's intending to cross the large pond and make his imprint in Hawai'i.
• The outlook: Not living and working here may hamper Kahele's promotional opportunities.
• Our take: You can take the man out of Hawai'i, but you can't take Hawai'i out of the man.
