Brooklyn, NY based Moonraker formed in Boston during 2000 when two film students, David Moltz and Kody Akhavi, and their roommate, drummer Dan Mintzer, began experimenting with electronic music. They were joined music students Kelli Scarr and Dan Chen, and a strong musical and philosophical connection was established between the five. Musically, the band has never been easily categorized. Their multifaceted sound has been described as electronic rock or experimental dance rock. Moonraker has been compared to Björk, Portishead, Stereolab, early U2 and the Police.
Over the last two years, Moonraker has performed alongside Metric, Elefant, The Stars, Ambulance LTD, and the Broken Social Scene, developing a faithful fan base in the Northeast. The band won WBOS' Best New Band in Boston [in 2001], they receive regular airplay on college and satellite radio, and recently they were awarded Best New Band at the 2003 Boston Music Awards.
In addition to Moonraker's debut LP Nada Brahma, the band has released an EP, a live CD and the self-titled 2003 CD on Immergent Recordings.

I love this album

It flows so nicely as an album, including the symmetry of the first and second half. Here's hoping that Moonraker makes more music for us.

This is a really great album. You'd never believe that the guitar player only used one effects pedal. My fiancé introduced me to it, and I had to buy a second copy after we let someone borrow it. It's that good.

good record, weird coincidence
author: Brian
Strangely, I also bought this record after hearing it at the Tea Lounge in Brooklyn (see next review). Moonraker should be giving them a percentage! It's a rare thing that you hear something so arresting in a coffeeshop and have to know what it is to get it, but this album is that. Great melodies, great energy, focused sound, well-recorded. I love it.

What a great album!
author: Nick Lovick
Moonraker's sound has really positively evolved. The songs are great, as is the production and performance. I really recommend this album to anyone who wants to hear something smart, original, and soulful. And be sure to see them live if you can!
