Album Notes

Previously the comedic songwriter known to Seattle’s bustling cabaret scene, this formerly “Naked Folksinger”, Moorea Malatt, turns family friendly (for good!) with Whip It Out: Songs for Breastfeeding in 2011. The album boasts not just words of support for breastfeeding mothers but also motherly inside-jokes, brilliantly effective modern lullabyes, a song for postpartum depression and even a friendly shout-out to non-breastfeeding families like stay-at-home dads, alternative and adoptive families.

Moorea created this album as a way to keep sane during her first nine months of extreme sleep deprivation as her infant daughter was diagnosed with central sleep apnea and the family tried to find cause and cure. Part of the proceeds of each CD go to both La Leche League and Best for Babes to support breastfeeding for health and wellbeing of mamas and babies around the world. This is the first in a long line of family albums to come.

Great fun, full of giggles for momma and baby
Joey and I listen to the album while looking in the mirror. We laugh and giggle and sing along. GREAT album for momma and baby to listen to and have fun. Joey doesn't quite understand the lyrics yet but momma does and can identify with most every song. We particularly enjoy The Nakie. Joey is a nakie baby and we love it. GREAT GREAT GREAT album!

Since my daughter has been born, she has nursed ever hour. I was bored out of my mind but usually needed two hands. I totally ran out of lullabyes I remembered and these ones were so hilarious and different. This would be an awesome present for a baby shower.

Move over, Elmo...
This is not your mother's children's CD...and that's a good thing. A VERY good thing.

Mom's everywhere will identify with the songs, and kids, young and old, will find...hmmm..different ways to be entertained by the lyrics and music of this record.

All of the songs are really good, but "Nakie" is an obvious standout that my 7 year old cracks up at every single time.

Battle of the Traffic Woes
A really upbeat, smart and funny album, very warm too. I was listening to 1000 Raisins while driving in bumper to bumper traffic and found myself calming down immediately..don't tell anyone, but I totally sing along and make noises to Sleepy Sheepy. Instantaneous mood changer, pretty much no matter what mood--to calm, happy, comforted. Not to mention sweet. So very sweet.

Whip It Out: Songs For Breastfeeding has been one of my favorite things to listen to since my daughter was born. Moorea’s album is simply delightful. And it’s not just for breastfeeding moms or breastfed babies, though those contingencies would certainly love it. Rather, the “breastfeeding” in the title is a stand-in for all the things that nourishment represents: love, bonding, dinner, attachment, gentleness and the sweet sweet connection between parent and child.

These songs contain breastfed babies, bottle fed babies, breastmilk and formula fed babies, a premie, a family with two dads, a baby who is weaning, a baby who never sleeps. There are appearances from scenes in every parent's life: naked babies running around the house, Lansinoh, Sleep Sheep, and the eponymous “Booby Snack” (which nursing is now known as in my house).

Get one for yourself! Or, better yet, do what I did and get one for you AND your lactation consultant who got you breastfeeding AND your friend who just had a baby AND your mom friend who will soon be weaning her third and last baby. It’s very very worth the $14.97.
