"These songs are so cool, I can't even choose a favorite....This guy's got it."
-Kathy Coleman Takebackcountry.com/About.com

At a time when a lot of popular music is canned, sampled, and cold, Moot Davis plays music from the heart that connects the past with the future.

Moot makes music that defies categorization. Born in New Jersey to a family who haled from West Virginia, Moot was exposed to both current music from the streets of Trenton and the deep musical influences of his family's southern heritage. The combination produced a unique sound which can only be defined as "honky tonk" - "roots" tunes with a distinct edge and attitude.

Growing up in New Jersey, Moot was exposed to traditional country music during his summers visiting his grandparents in West Virginia . There he heard such classic artists as Johnny Cash and Hank Williams, a discovery that would influence his personal songwriting style.

After high school, Moot did stints as a laborer and pool builder while focusing his efforts on his musical career, eventually moving to New York City . Moot was soon heard by Fred Boenig who ran WDVR-FM, a local radio station out of Sergeantsville , NJ . There, Moot was featured on a live weekly hillbilly radio show called "Heartlands Hayride." Boenig also helped Moot record his first real demo.

In 2001 Moot moved to Nashville. It was there that he continued honing his own brand of contemporary roots music and started sending out demos. Eventually, one of his recordings landed in the lap of Little Dog Records. One listen and everyone at the label was hooked. Exactly one year after moving to Nashville , Moot found himself on a plane to Los Angeles to make a record with multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning producer Pete Anderson. The result is the self-titled CD, MootDavis. From the first notes of the upbeat "Thick Of It Now" to the haunting strains of "Last Train Home," Moot Davis is one of the most impressive debut recordings of the last few decades.

Listening to this CD I close my eyes and see me and my brothers sitting in a hot car listening to Hank Williams Sr., Johnny Cash and other Honky Tonkers while waiting for our dad to finish a pit stop at one of the many watering holes. This CD is about bringing those private and precious shared moments in that car and the pleasure of lyrics that relate to everyone.

Dictionary listing for Honky Tonk has a picture of Moot Davis
author: Gloria Lynn

If you happen to be perusing your Webster's Dictionary, take some time to look up Honky Tonk in there and you'll find a picture of Moot Davis. Moots vocal style and lyrics are born of traditional, hard core honky tonk in the Hank Williams Sr way. A mental picture of a foggy night in old New Orleans is painted with "Last Train Home" with it's haunting melody and lyrics. Stay Gone is the tale of a lover who just won't stay away; Nothin' tells of a man misbehaving and his reward is nothing. The 4th song of the album, Whiskey Town, is slated to be used in an upcoming Sandra Bullock film. All 10 songs on the album were written by Moot Davis and he provides the vocals and also plays guitar on the album. Other musicians include Don Heffington (drums); Gabe Witcher (fiddle); Jonathon Clark (background vocals); Joe Buck (upright & electric bass); Gary Morse (banjo, dobro, pedal & lap steel); Skip Edwards (piano & steel guitar); and Pete Anderson (producer, arranger, electric & acoustic guitar, banjo, manodlin & percussion). This album is a must have for anyone who enjoys pure country music in the honky tonk tradition.
