Album Notes

The boys just love a good tune--soulfull, melodic and screaming harmonics are their recipe for a good time. Guitarist/singer Jesse DeClercq agrees, "Three out of five trips to Mickey D's are terrible for your hygiene." He's since sponsored weekly meditations on that movie about the guy who ate nothing but fast food for 30 days. Afterwards, the Moped Ashleys like to relax to Drummer/singer Rich Fieldings guitar twangings and down home New Orleans interpretations of "Welcome Back, Carter."

Bassist/vocalist Martin Hauser agrees that the band is multi-talented, in the "talented" vein meaning "We all take turns on the mic, do backup in inappropriate spots whenever possible, love doing Ramones covers for the pure Anthemic experience..." But, Marty will go on to tell you in all seriousness, "I've got this pocket do-hicky thing that does more things than anybody I've ever met." Well said! And so wise.

The boys from Lake Tahoe's North Shore (not to be confused with South Shore) are very pleased with their sophmore effort, so pleased that one of them bought a house in another remote village in the sticks--and plan to evolve into an electronica outfit, exchanging tracks via USPS. Meanwhile, "Candy in Your Pocket" has garnered rave reviews, most of which Jesse has erased out of embarassment or drunkeness--email the band for his current story, or visit their website. They're eagerly tracking how many hits/day it receives and are looking forward to hearing back from Pabst Brewing Co. regarding their request to be sponsored by PBR (it's so refreshing! and so urbanly trendy! they really love it!).

REVIEWS

Imaginative, fun indie rock packaged into a very cohesive album.
author: John Drollette
This is a well-done studio release from Tahoe indie rockers. All Day is a catchy gem with rare-in-indie-rock element of groove! The AM-radio-like vocal FX on Come on Ray are great, and distinguish the radiospeak from the narrator's thoughts. Nice lo-fi solution that clarifies the story. Also, the Come on Ray synth is really good -- sometimes live it seemed a little less...well...ready? Disappointments is great -- very zippy with more energy than I've heard before. Radio has really come along from the early days -- it works well here in a confident, mature presentation. Overall, the record flows well, gaining momentum in the middle and a strong finish. The boys did a great job on the recording, mixing and mastering, and the vastly underappreciated art of arranging the tracks on the album -- in this iTunes era, sometimes musicians forget that they're making an album, not a mix tape!

Sweet Dreamy Indie Rock
author: Seth
The MA's have a nice chunk of sweet dreamy indie rock songs to smile, close your eyes, and sing along to. Music that survives the indie-rock drought. Unconventional and fun, check out this freshman release by the Moped Ashleys.
