'TOMES' is the official issue of MORBID DARKNESS's debut 1991 self-titled demo, and the 1994 follow-up demo, 'Return From Death'; both restored from the original source master mix tapes. These recordings are from the band's formative years, when both original founding members still comprised the line-up. These recordings are both low quality and mid quality compared to todays standards and are recommended for those who are interested in attaining these pieces of underground history.

In November 1991, Chris and Clayton Shaver [cousins, aged 14 and 17, respectively] embarked on their first ever released demo; a home recorded effort, using innovative ways to bounce tracks using only standard tape recorders. The duo both sang on the demo, and shared duties with guitar solos. Chris performed all the rhythm guitar tracks and also took lead in the percussion department, employing the use of a makeshift drum kit [often referred to as the 'fake' kit], made of vinyl covered stools, empty plastic buckets and a beginner set of hi-hat cymbals. There was no bass track on the recording, as neither member owned a bass. This recording is sub-standard to say the least, but the riffs are legible and the mix is remarkably even considering the techniques used to record. Furthermore, the demo serves as a symbol of the band's drive and determination to be heard and it is recognized as a very bold move on the band's behalf to have considered releasing the demo in its original form.
Nearly 3 years later, after some internal issues had been cleared up, the band launched a true follow-up demo, the underground staple 'Return From Death', in April of 1994. Much had changed over the course of time, but the drive and passion was still very much the same. The duo this time entered a local studio, and performed the parts much as they did on the first effort; both sharing vocal and guitar solo duties, and Chris playing the rhythm guitars and drums - this time, on a real drum kit, albeit a rather shabby one. This recording became well known in the underground circuit and is still a sought after relic of the past.
A couple of years following the release of the '94 demo, the duo parted ways. Nearly 15 years later, Chris relaunched the project, releasing new demos, some compilations of unreleased old recordings and eventually an EP and a debut full-length album, before deciding to end the era again permanently. Currently, the follow-up project to MORBID DARKNESS is called CRIMSON REQUIEM and will be releasing a debut album in mid-2012.
These recordings are not new. However, the restoration of the original mixes gives both a nod to the past and the great memories that were had as well as serving to act as the most superior versions of these mixes that are currently available.
