¦ OVERVIEW / BAND BACKGROUND:
Regarded as one of the best thrash metal bands to come out of the mid-western United States in the 1980’s, Morbid Saint will once again be in the limelight with this fantastic new 2008 Power Play Records CD re-issue of 'Spectrum Of Death'. Founded in Sheboygan, Wisconsin in 1986 MORBID SAINT is revered by many as one of the preeminent thrash metal bands of the late 1980's. Their impressive speedy sound can best be described as a vicious and brutal thrash metal assault - their music laced with compelling song writing that's rife with evil overtones. This five piece US metal band toured the mid-west and frequently opened up for legendary metal band, DEATH.
In 1988 Eric Greif (renowned for his work with DEATH) and his partner Pete Lupini, of Edge Entertainment (and later Edge Records), teamed up with Morbid Saint to record a full length demo album at Opus Recording in Gurnee, Illinois. Under the guidance of Eric, Pete, and recording engineer Al Pangelinan the band was able to deliver one of the purest examples of brutal thrash metal ever recorded. The demo was released originally under the title "Lock up your children" by Edge Records. Later that year the demo was renamed "Spectrum Of Death" and was licensed to Mexican record label Avanzada Metalica.
The "Spectrum Of Death" CD quickly won over the metal fans (that were lucky enough to get a hold of a copy) because of the band's raw high speed fist-banging style combined with their incredible song writing ability. Morbid Saint's impressive music can be likened to that of many of the heavy hitters of the 80's thrash metal scene: Testament, Slayer, Anthrax, Overkill, Vio-Lence, Possessed, Heathen, Forbidden, Sadus, as well as early Metallica and Megadeth.
The Morbid Saint sound is powered by the searing, aggressive vocals of Pat Lind, whose distinctive and abrasive style has often been compared to that of German thrash metal bands (like Kreator). Pat unleashes a high speed verbal assault that carries the music through every evil twist and turn of "Spectrum Of Death".
At the forefront of the band is the guitar tandem of Jim Fergades and Jay Visser. Jim and Jay bring the highest level of guitar skill to the table that is clearly evident from their insane trading off of lightning fast riffs, licks, and ripping leads. Bass player Tony Paletti's frantic and explosive bass sounds together with drummer Lee Reynolds' thunderous and rapid fire attack gives Morbid Saint a bottom end that delivers a massive wallop along with precision timing. On the recording Paletti and Reynolds form the rock that is the Morbid Saint backbone.
Morbid Saint's crowning moment was their stellar live performance at the Milwaukee Metalfest in December 1989. They recorded one more album 'Destruction System' in 1992 and then in the mid-1990's the band ultimately broke up and decided to go their separate ways.
Now 20 years after its initial recording "Spectrum Of Death" is once again available to the rabid metal fans of the world.
Morbid Saint "Spectrum Of Death" CD is a thrash metal masterpiece that must be in every metal fan's music collection!
