Album Notes
Raised in the rural town of Chewelah, Washington, about an hour north of Spokane, Kevin Morgan learned guitar, piano, and singing by ear. Hitting adolescence put his voice in the range of Johnny Cash, but he also had the influence of the grunge bands of the day. He wrote songs in this period, but they were sparse and unrefined. Over time, more songwriter influences came from varied genres, such as Tom Waits, Glen Campbell, Duncan Sheik, and Kris Kristofferson, driving him further to songs that emphasized content and storytelling. In 2004, living in Spokane, and after many years of searching for his own musical identity and direction as a solo singer/songwriter, Kevin finally penned a new song from the cauldron of his maturity. The song, “Cibola,” attracted the attention of Spokane-based fingerstyle guitarist Jonathan Nicholson, who eagerly connected Kevin with promoter Kelly Lotze. Now with audiences to play to, he began crafting more songs, and soon he had a list of original material ready for recording. But it was not until after he married wife Rachael that he found the gumption to step into the recording studio. With producers Logan Heftel and Joe Varela, and Jonathan Nicholson adding his unique sound, “Dimestore Sagas” became his first CD release. Kevin currently resides with his wife in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
