This is the first of three albums that were produced as a result of three recording sessions at Fantasy Studios, in Berkeley Ca. I walked into the studio with about twelve or so well developed themes, but each theme consists of improvisational variations - most of which are dependent upon the actual piano I am playing at the time. At Fantasy studios I fell in love with a 9ft vintage Yamaha concert grand - a piano with harmonics and overtones that are truly amazing. Using two vintage mics, every nuance of the piano is heard, the pedals, the pulsating harmonics, etc. I improvised around my compositions in a way that allowed the piano to do what it did best - resonate and sing out. All the pieces on this album as well as those soon to come, are melodic in nature - I am definitely not a crash and bang type pianist - I want the piece to be soothing, enjoyable, something you want to hear again and again.
