Album Notes

The Ralph Morgan Brian Moore Duo has released their second album, "Turn Out The Stars", with straight ahead arrangements of some well-chosen jazz standards, including the title ballad track written by pianist Bill Evans. Works by other legendary jazz composers such as Horace Silver ("The Preacher" & "Silver's Serenade"), Thelonious Monk ("Blue Monk"), Kenny Dorham ("Blue Bossa"), Freddie Hubbard ("Up Jumped Spring") and Oliver Nelson ("Stolen Moments") are given swinging treatments by the Duo. Versions of the jazz waltzes, "Someday My Prince Will Come", popularized by Miles Davis, and "Bluesette", written by French musician Toots Thielmans are also re-worked with lyrical improvisations. The duo breathes new life into an evergreen standard, Like Someone In Love, and the Brazilian bossa nova "Black Orpheus" from the movie of the same name. Ralph Morgan & Brian Moore have been playing together for years, and these tracks show it!

Ralph Morgan has played in the past with legendary bassist Victor Gaskin, and is currently studying with world class pianist & teacher, Joanne Brackeen.

Brian Kendall Moore has performed with Ed Shaughnessy, Bobby Shew, Charles Mcpherson, and the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Besides being a member of the duo, he is also a member of Grupo Fiesta, a Latin rock band, and songwriter Keith Everett's Orange Morris Band. He also leads his own avant-garde performance group Sound Circus.

1st CD I've ever listened to while working
author: Arnie Stone

This is the first CD I have ever listened to while I'm working (designing IT systems). Keeping the volume down for background, Ralph helps me be more productive. Turn it up a bit and the music demands attention - not because it's intrusive but because it's so damn good!

The Best Ever!!!!

If I could, I would give this CD more than 5 stars. It really is the best jazz album I've ever heard. Every song is an instant classic, and the best is the CD's opening track, Blue Monk! If I could only hear one song, it'd would be that one, even though that's a hard decision to make. This CD is my favorite CD of all time and I hope it goes down in history!!! Get it right now, I promise you'll love it!

Why This Is One Of My Favorite Records ...
author: Sharon Levine

This is one of my favorite records because it is all-purpose. It helps me focus on my work. It relaxes me for an evening of insatiable conversation. It is the ease with which they carry out each tune that sets my worries aside. They sound totally into what they are doing, and have put together a great collection of familiar jazz tunes that show off their extraordinary talents and taste. Congratulations on a job well done! I'll definately recommend this to my friends!
