notes
"Strings that..." was born after Pam Morita had the opportunity to play with the fine musicians on this CD--expressive, professional, jazz artists that came together in Sweden. After this meeting, discussion led to the use of "strings" as a metaphor for linking people and places and the connections that we feel emotionally and musically. "The Art of Lovin'" was written for Pam Morita's husband, "Mr. P-E" for her son, and "Waltz for Miyo and Paul" for her parents. Strings piecing together the soul are strung in the songs, "In Transito" and "Masks of Innocence."
Pam's Japanese heritage is rooted in the instrumental pieces, "Masano" and "To Kobe." And the title piece, "Strings that...," describes the meeting of the musicians on the CD: Johan Setterlind on trumpet, Lars Linna on flute, Tommy Johnson on bass, and Ronnie Gardiner on drums. A current resident of Phoenix, Arizona, Pamela Morita is originally from Chicago, Illinois and has lived in Norway for 6 years. Her piano style is simple yet elegant and her vocal interpretations generate warmth and compassion.

astounding piano playing
author: Jaymie HarnischWhat a beautiful mix of music. Pam plays a variety of music that speaks from her soul.
East meets West in a Magnificent Merger!
author: Doris SpearsStrings That...is a breathtaking example of what musical diversity can import to a Jazz product. Like an artist with a palette of mood evoking colors, Ms. Morita's sometimes playful, sometimes pensive, always polished piano phrasing is comfortably supported by a rhythm section that anticipates her moves and provides her the field to expound on them with perfect flourish. Just like a lover.
