Folk/pop songstress Marie Moreshead writes brilliant songs
that ooze positivity and playfulness because she can’t help but allow her quirky and sparkling personality to shine through in her music. The tone and mood appeals to listeners of all ages, and she is quickly establishing herself as one of the up-and-coming artists in Portland’s music community.
By the way she stands alone on stage with her acoustic guitar, she harkens to classic acts like Joni Mitchell, and Carly Simon, but she is anything but old fashioned. For example, she largely developed her fanbase before
playing a single show by posting videos on Youtube, and by updating her Myspace page. The result is a following of internet-savvy fans who were moved by her songwriting, and who were more than willing to come out in droves when Marie began performing live.
Those fans were soon to enjoy Marie’s music in some of the most well-known music venues in Maine, as her touring schedule began to fill almost instantly. In 2007, after performing at the Maine Cultural Music Festival in
Livermore, she was inundated with requests for a CD. She set her mind on recording and releasing The Distraction EP, and signed with Roadside Manna Records to help bring the project to fruition.
Meanwhile, the demand for her live performances continued
to grow exponentially. She opened for regionally and nationally touring acts including Rustic Overtones, Mark Erelli and Rachel Griffin. She was booked to perform at one of Maine’s largest music festivals, Harvest Fest. The local press began to take notice, and she was soon performing and being interviewed live on TV and radio.
There is no limit on where Marie goes from here.

If you are not already familiar with Marie Moreshead take one part Michelle Shocked, one part Joni Mitchell, a splash of Jewel, and you kind of get a sense of what she is about. The influences are there but she is certainly not a carbon copy of anyone. Marie Moreshead is a unique artist with an uncanny ability to consistently write very compelling lyrics. Take \"I Love How…\" for example. You would be hard pressed to find a catchier little pop song. And her track \"I Won\'t Be Home\" delivered with her gentle voice is one of the sweetest \"kiss off\" tunes you could ever hear. Her songs beckon the listener in, making you hang on every lyric in anticipation of the next. Marie Moreshead\'s music is quite simply, happiness wrapped in hope and optimism. Every track is a gem so do yourself a favor and get your hands on this one.
