Album Notes

Does the name "The Fabulous Counts" mean anything to you?
These extremely FUNKY (and extremely sampled) gentlemen spawned this solo performance album by the group leader and main-man-funky-organist- MOSE DAVIS. Perhaps not quite solo as the cream of Atlanta and Detroit musicians are put to work behind Moses' (and one from Tommy Stewart) compositions. An utterly unique and baroque bit of Jazz, Soul, Funk, Rock with a dash of Tropicalia thrown in. Too much for 1978 tastes perhaps? Being on the independently distributed label Pure Silk did not help as they did not play the payola games the major labels indulged in.....and this work was considered lost. Until a few hip-hop producers started sampling it (uncredited of course), and passing around the knowledge of the lp. And lets not forget those disco jocks who still rocked their record pool promos of the 12" of "Something Abut You/Love to Live" (included on this CD in their extended versions as bonus tracks!). And that Iconic painting on the cover was a beacon to anybody who ever attended a record show and had to pay hundreds of dollars for a copy!
This CD goes hand-in-hand with our Tommy Stewart compilation "Make Happy Music". Do NOT buy one without the other. Listen to the samples- feel the THRILL of discovery of this little known, but EXCELLENT work.
