"An instant classic. Go get it." Rasputin Manifesto

THIS IS THE DEBUT CD FROM THE MOSS BROTHERS! Their 2nd CD, Electricitation, was just released and features the bass playing of former-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted. He contacted the brothers upon hearing On The North Side of The Tree. As they say, the rest is history!

Today's leading pop groups are mostly five-member boy bands and solo crooners whose music, critics complain, is contrived and formulaic. If anyone is bucking this trend, it's The Moss Brothers of Piedmont, California. They were only nine and elven years old when they made their debut CD, On The North Side Of The Tree, yet, Reuben and Evan were already so musically accomplished, their original material so well-conceived, that the brothers are sure to attract fans of not just their own age but years older, too. With a mature sound that is full of catchy hooks, melodic sophistication, and thoughtful, often witty lyrics, The Moss Brothers can be described as a little Buddy Holly meets a little Tom Petty meets a two-man Green Day. This is feel-good music with an edge.

Instead of relying on drum machines, backup singers, or smoke-and-mirrors recording techniques, The Moss Brothers have made their debut CD, On The North Side Of The Tree, on raw talent. Its eight original songs and two classic blues cover tunes are upbeat and complex, lending the album a sound more like that of a four-piece band than just drums and guitar. There are other young groups out there, but The Moss Brothers demonstrate talent, maturity, and musical sensitivity toward each other that goes way beyond their years.

Reuben Moss is the youngest guitarist endorsed by the Fender Guitar Company.

Both the first and second CD's are very good; the song: "A Promise is A Promise" is a masterpiece.

The sound is more Jonathan Richman or Beat Happening than The Shaggs. Lots of effortless, great lyrics and tasty nuances. I do find myself wishing they'd rerecorded a few of the vocals, though. Without the lyric book, the best ones get made unintelligible at times. Otherwise, great, and surprisingly nice job on the covers. Oh, and, come ON, boys- which IS best, football or baseball? ļ
