Album Notes

In 2001, The Moss Piglets arrived on the scene with this first self-titled CD. Since then, much has changed. But this initial effort shows the Minnesota-based group's tight harmonies and creative songwriting abilities. This genre-bending album is all over the proverbial map. It mixes bluegrass with jam band and reggae and folk and country rock.

Ian Gamble provides the lead guitar chops, John Barcay on keyboards, John Goolsby on guitar (bass & rhythm), George Payne is on drums and Stacey Trelfa (Goolsby's wife) adding her voice and flute to a few songs. Highly-skilled musicianship and vocals are brought to bear on this first go at recording.

A must-have CD to complete your Moss Piglet collection.

REVIEWS

Something for everyone here. An enjoyable blend of countless styles.

I've never seen this group live but I can't imagine not having a great time listening to any band with songs called Anchovy and Chia Pet. The strengths of this effort are in its diversity and very strong instrumentation. Many musical styles are drawn upon, including rock, folk, bluegrass, and even reggae. On King Mojo Jones, I even detected a hint of Steve Winwood/Traffic. Give this one a good listen and I guarantee it will bring you back for more.

This CD answers the question of what would a band play if they were good enough to play anything. The tracks catch a few of the many styles these guys can do, from bluegrass to funky anthem for a good cause (Save the Anchovy!) Astonishingly well-recorded, too.
