Album Notes

Update: Kathryn was selected as a Finalist in the 2005 Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Songwriter Showcase. She was selected from over 700 applicants.

GRATITUDE is Kathryn's debut album. It was chosen as a TOP 12 Do-it-Yourself ALBUM in the November 2002 issue of Performing Songwriter magazine, which wrote:

"The Seattle-based artist writes with a wisdom beyond her years, taking us on a journey through warm folk expressions."

Compared to such artists as Eva Cassidy and Dar Williams, Kathryn has been singing all her life. But it wasn't until 1997, after picking up a friend's guitar, that she discovered her passion and love for playing and composing songs of her own. Since that day, she has artfully combined her extraordinary voice and intimate songwriting and has become one of the Northwest's most loved troubadours.

After releasing her debut EP in March 2000, Kathryn's reputation quickly grew as a talented and powerful musician and performer. Tracks from her EP began popping up on radio stations from Seattle to Santa Cruz to New Haven CT., and fans started asking for more.

So in August of 2001, Kathryn gathered together some of the finest musicians in the Northwest, and recorded her debut full length CD, "Gratitude".

Kathryn's latest release, "Dreamers Everywhere", has already been featured on NPR's All Songs Considered Open Mic, and has received favorable reviews in such publications as indie-music.com and Victory Music Review. Her song "I Give Thanks", will be featured in the November issue of Sing Out! Magazine.

REVIEWS

"blesses you deeply, ineffably, and satisfyingly every time you play it."
author: Victory Review

"Possessed of a wonderfully pure set of vocal pipes, Kathryn doesn’t belt her songs out or try to impress with her native abilities. Instead, she simply gives out everything she is through her voice, and most listeners inevitably come rapidly to the belief that she is singing directly to them. So we stand in line to buy her CDs. Gratitude is excellent; it grows on you like the view outside a cabin by a lake in the woods where you find more beauty each time you look. With his impeccable ear, David Lange chose to minimize the reverb on Kathryn’s voice, putting as little distance between her and the listener as possible, and Kathryn called upon a group of superb local craftsmen to fill out her music: Richard Middleton, Dan White, Joel Litwin, Larry Murante and Lange himself, among others. This is music, simple and pure, that blesses you deeply, ineffably and satisfyingly every time you play it."

This CD is appropriately named Gratitude. It's content speaks volumes of our life here on this earth. It makes you think about the many, many gifts that we often take for granted and appreciate their presence in our lives. It makes me so thankful to be alive!
