Album Notes

Who the hell is Mother Jackson? Four loud guys who know how to do one thing really well: rock and roll. This four piece rock machine plays music hailing from the early 1970's, but with an original and refreshing sound. The live shows are sonic locomotives that will blow your clothes off. Paul McHugh from Greenville, SC brings his soulful voice and his blues-fried, raunchy guitar style as the frontman. As the son of Moe Tucker of the Velvet Underground, Richard Mikulka from Douglas, GA grew up swamped in music roots, and it comes through in his straight up bad ass, icepick guitar playing. Chuck Bradburn from Huntsville, AL plays bass dripping with southern soul that could drive a '68 mustang right across the Grand Canyon. Jim Wilson from San Diego, CA bangs out drum rhythms like a possessed shaman hell bent on stealing your sister's soul, and he sings with a raunchiness that would make Howlin' Wolf proud. These four misfits came together in Athens, Ga, where they currently reside, and formed the rock and roll steamroller known as Mother Jackson.
These guys haven't been idle in their few years as a band. Members of Mother Jackson recorded the song "Fired Up" with Moe Tucker of the Velvet Underground for the compilation disc Love Songs For New York which was released by The Village Voice in the fall of 2001. During the fall of 2003, the band recorded its debut album Suck On This at Elixer Studios in Athens, GA. The album is yet to be officially released, but copies can be bought from the band or on athens.net. Mother Jackson has been a regular fixture on the Athens music scene, and they consistently rock out clubs such as the 40 Watt club, The Caledonia, and Tasty World.. They have also been travelling around the Southeast (see below for the clubs they have played). Mother Jackson has been regularly playing with Athens, Georgia's best bands including The Drive-By-Truckers, Southern Bitch, Ceiling Fan, Grand Fury, Slackdaddy, and Sci-Fu. Just listening to the record and seeing them live is proof that Mother Jackson is rock and roll at its best.
