notes

Mother Jane....an acoustically & vocally-driven original duo, based out of Lexington, KY. Beth Burden and Lisa Raymond are the two usually asked "which one is Jane?"

Kentucky native Beth, whose "my own way" vocals show the maturity and sass of a veteran, together with Lisa's Boston angled harmonies and their tight acoustic work raise "some of the sweetest folk sounds released in recent years." gogirlsmusic.com

Influenced by a wide array of artists and styles... Shawn Colvin, Stevie Wonder, Patty Griffin, Aretha Franklin, Tori Amos, Ben Harper, Nikka Costa, Alison Krauss just to name a few...
Mother Jane has a sound and flavor all their own.

What do they sound like? The age old question for music that falls all across the contemporary folk category. Edgy acoustic pop, stirring ballads and a dip in the soul pool create an unmistakable blend of sweet-faced and in-your-face original songs.

What began in '99 has developed into the strong and defined Mother Jane sound. The girls have been working a solid calendar of live shows while their 2nd cd 'a safe distance' showed increasing airplay next to some great company of AAA / Americana artists. Mother Jane's recently released 3rd disc, 'can't complain' brings together their years of symmetry with their music, songwriting and each other.

Beth and Lisa are addictively silly like two kids always in trouble, and its obvious that they have left their egos at the door. From coffeehouses and listening rooms, to festivals and radio programs -their live shows seize the soul of Mother Jane. Basically what you see is what you get. Nothing more, nothing less....

Great CD for many reasons. Easy listening, talented musicians with a unique flair and a "feel good" sound. "I will Return" has a full band sound that encompasses the vocals and showcases the song writing.

Just the beginning for these girls, have heard them live and truly enjoyed their performance. Safe Distance is truly a super CD.

  • outstanding rhythmic acoustic guitar and harmonies
    author: Janet

A Safe Distance is a gem of a cd. The acoustic guitars, tight harmonies, and great lyrics are reminiscent of the early Indigo Girls, yet take it one step farther and better! "If You Fall" "Sugarcoated" "To the Other Side" and "You" are fabulous! Listen Listen and enjoy!

a safe distance is a mixture of mellow melodic art and hard-hitting, kiss-my-ass lyrics... perfect for any mood... with Beth's voice and Lisa's talented guitar-work, it hits the spot for those who just like good music
