Perhaps more than in his previous efforts, Moth Music-Volume 4 captures the diversity of musical interests of composer Mark Phillip Lopez. This CD opens with From Out Of The Blue, a guitar driven rocker that addresses the experience of sudden good fortune.
Angelinos is a pop homage to the everyday worker in downtown Los Angeles that makes the city thrive. Leap Of Faith is a spare yet driving arrangement exploring the thought process behind taking risks. No Comprende is a light-hearted guitar duet romp that looks at miscommunication, intended or not. Now Where Was I? is a jazz inspired journey into the mind of a person who just can’t keep his train of thought. In The Presence Of Grace is a soft harp and strings piece about a young woman that exudes the beauty of a dancer even when she’s just waiting tables. Pomona Lisa contrasts greatly with the previous track in conveying the nervous and chaotic world of a young girl living in the fast lane. The final track is Snapshots Of A Cats Life, a tribute to a friend’s seventeen-year journey with his cat. This conceptual piece is a collection of nine musical thoughts that represent snapshots of their experiences that took them from California to Virginia and back, from prosperity to homelessness, from finding her as an abandoned kitten on a rainy night to her final days in her most comfortable home.
There is something for everyone’s musical taste in this CD and it is hoped that this collection finds the ears of those adventurous souls that enjoy going off the beaten path to experience a memorable ride.
