notes
Motion Picture is a band that, upon first hearing, you will say, "What the F@$# is this? Screw this S#@*."
The band then spends the next week haunting your dreams with their lustrous soundscape.
The following week finds you ultimately addicted, with Dr. Motion Picture hooking you up to an IV that is perpetually pumping doses of Anhedonia into your body.
Then you will understand the Power of The Picture.
Motion Picture is a collage of clean and dirty guitars, tremolo effects, fourth-chord/fifth-chord progressions, shaka-kahn shove-off lyrics, fletch-lives drumbeats, crosswalk kicking bass lines, smiles on our faces and hands against the wall. We rock for the ability to bare our souls figuratively, literally, subtly, bluntly or in any way possible. We do this because rocking answers the age-old question: How can you talk about mundane everyday events that happen to just about everyone and liken it to a soap-operatic dialogue to which we daily subscribe?
Motion Picture formed in 2003, swallowing-up the following members: Wade Hall, Chris Owens, Mark Tergesen, and Michael Morgan. And though based in New York City, not a single member is a native. Having shagged-ass from various parts of the U.S., we all arrived with hopes of cutting our teeth on the proverbial apple only to find that it has spoiled. Our gums are bleeding.
On lead guitar Wade Hall casually rips out non-casual solos with a double-back soul that sounds smoother than a divorce lawyer conferring for alimony. Chris Owens makes walking bass lines run, while releasing vocal harmonies that mark the sound of sweet sweetness. Mark Tergesen punishes his drum set as though he's a member of the Hamas and his kit's a legion of infidels (but only if said member is a human metronome). Michael Morgan brings the rhythm on his guitar, then does his best toggling singing styles between bratty post-grad abandon and "The brother looking out for the brother man" (think Eddie Kendricks at a cornbread convention).
When it comes down to it, Motion Picture crosses sounds and tastes to bring you a style that feels oh-so-familiar, yet still unique. We are the niggling feeling of comfort in a strange place - a wide sweeping swing of relativity.
So welcome to the rolling reel that is the music of Motion Picture. We are here to tell you what we know, and what we know is how much we don't know. But despite all that we don't know:
We know the now.

Check this one out!
author: AmyMy first impression was that this is not my type of music, not in a bad way, it just isn't. But, after hearing it it just stuck in my head and now I can't get it out! I want to see them as I am living in New York right now but I missed the record release party? However I will catch them at their next gig!
The Power of the Picture
author: DaveI went to check out Motion Picture on May 19th at the Knitting Factory for their Record Release Party and they blew me away. It was 45 minutes of sweat, blood (Mike Morgan cut his index finger while playing the guitar and he carried on like a warrior doing his thing), passion, and energy. I would compare their performance to seeing Nirvana way back when. Every member of the band are masters of their respective instruments. I want to see this band record a live album. If you haven't already, buy Anhedonia!!!!

Their manager Jeff gave me a copy of Anhedonia on the D train the other day in Brooklyn. Wow, I was hooked after the first listen of Anhedonia. I love the vocals and the lyrics are so truthful about certain things that occur in life. Needless to say, I love it, thanks Jeff for hooking me up with this addictive album.
Indie-Rock revolution
author: JamesKeeping in mind that this is the debut release of this band i'd say they are creating some very new and unique sounds in the world of indie-rock. The cd does take a few listens before you can realy wrap your ears around it, suddenly your ears are bleeding, in the way only ugly cassanova or ween can make them bleed. It's brilliant. A weird meld of punk, folk, indie, and god knows what else. good stuff.
Just what the doctor ordered.
author: EddieI happened to come across this cd from a colleague at work and it has not left my cd player. They blend so many different elements and genres into their music. Listening to this cd reminds me of Weezer, Jack Johnson and Elvis Costello. I love the unique sound of Michael Morgan's voice, I have not heard a voice so unique since the early 90's with Vedder, Cornell and Staley. I am looking forward to seeing Motion Picture live.
