  • One of New Jersey's Top 10 Hottest Upcoming Bands of 2007
    author: The Pod Squad, NYC

We had an opportunity to give a listen to Mouth of Wilson when they were in New York early on in 2007. We were thoroughly impressed by the energy displayed on stage by all members of this 5-man band, as well as by the one or two cover songs they did during their set (they finished with a truly awesome acoustic guitar version of "Kashmir"). We purchased the CD hoping it would be as good as their live performance, but not expecting much polish from an independently-produced album. We were wrong. Every track on the CD seems to have been polished to a high gloss finish. The soaring and crisp vocals and various instruments blend in such an amazing way. The expanse of song styles range from the steady agressive beat of "Heavy", to the rock-inspired "Goodbye Hello", to the melodious "Stop Tripping", to the mellow and gripping "Talk to Me", to the truly happy "Not All in Vain", to the unique piano-electric guitar mixed "What's What", to the downright touching "Merry Christmas." And there are still several more we could go on and on about. We just wished they had included on their album the other upbeat rock song (which we never caught the name of) they perfomred that night. Guess that'll just make us come back for more the next time they're in the city. You should give them a listen if you're lucky enough to catch them.

This is one great collection of songs. I heard these guys at McGuinn's last year, then heard them on TSR not too long ago and picked up the CD at a recent show....the biggest thing you notice right away is chemistry between all the band members, and the groove of every song. Plus, it seems that a lot of the band members take the lead in writing. My favorite stuff: the piano and organs in Stop Tripping are amazing, so is the bass line. That one is my favorite. Also I love Space. And What's What has such an amazing groove, and the drummer rocks that one. The record as a whole even is so tight. The singer does an amazing job on all the songs, especially Heavy and Not All In Vain. The end of Inevitable is crazy too, that high note. Even though you can tell these guys are going for songs over flash, there are a few sweet guitar solos, my favorite being the end of Anything and Everything. These guys do a lot more of that live, where they have a more raw edge, and take a lot of chances. Anyway, of all the NJ bands I know of, MOW stands heads and shoulders above the rest (maybe not Bon Jovi or Bruce, but you know what I mean). These guys seem to just be getting warmed up.

One of my sorority sisters turned me on to these guys. She got the cd at one of their recent shows. I can't believe they haven't been on the radio yet. I heard them on my college's radio station twice (Inevitable) but then I got a chance to hear the rest of their stuff. I'm so glad i found it online. It is AMAZING. Every one of the songs is so beautiful. I love Talk To Me and Not All In Vain. Space and Anything and Everything are really good too. But the whole cd is so totally awesome. You will love it.

Good live band, for sure, but this CD sounds like a professional release, not an unsigned "local" band. Every song here has something special going for it. Standouts to me: Inevitable, Heavy, Not All In Vain, Talk To Me. Buy this CD, close your eyes, and you can imagine this band as big as anyone. Best of luck to them.

  • I think I might become addicted!

I heard one of their songs played on a local college radio a few weeks back and I really liked it. I saw that the band was playing at a nearby club and went to check them out live. Wow, if you think the cd is awesome, you should hear them on stage. But I did pick up the album and have yet to take it out of my car's radio. There is soo much to love about this music. My favorites are Heavy, What's What, Talk to Me, and Goodbye Hello, though there is not one song that I skip over. Heavy has an awesome drum part going, What's What has this great vibe, Talk to Me is really powerful (the vocals - especially in the last minute of the song) and Goodbye Hello is just amazing - I simply love blasting it as I drive. I can't wait to see them live again (they're all kinda hot too).

  • Quite refreshing: no two songs sound alike.
    author: Anon.

In a music age where so many bands seem to produce albums with only one or two decent songs (the rest being nothing more than filler), it is really refreshing to come across a cd which presents such a wide range of sounds. As I listened to this cd for the first time, I was truly grabbed by the driving line of Heavy, the rocking rhythm of Goodbye Hello, the soaring vocals of Talk to Me and Inevitable, and the upbeat mood of Not All in Vain. What's What is truly unique in the genre and deserves more than a few listens to truly appreciate. Stop Tripping, Anything and Everything, Space, This World, and Merry Christmas really round out this album, as they provide the relaxed and melodious background to a wonderful collection of tunes. I highly recommend giving this a serious listen or two; from start to finish, you won't be let down.
