The best of an R&B/Hip-hop blend. It’s an album full of love songs that are introspective but entertaining. If you like the quiet moods of a good slow song & the infectious beats of a hip-hop track, this album should be in your collection.

Album Notes

Mr. Barker is back at it with his debut album, Grown Folks Business, an album that doesn't break any new ground, but does its best to live up to its name while still keeping it upbeat, classy and soulful. His grind and work ethic is evident in the quality of production in the music and artistry.
Grown Folks Business begins on the right foot, with a clever introduction of a classic hip-hop sound in the Intro "Picture This". The album then starts its task of living up to its title with the super charged club banger "Number One Lady" produced by Epik for Grindstone Music Group. The momentum shifts slightly with the very next track, "Best Of Me." The next few songs, including "So Fly," "Special Kinda Love" and "I Can Be" are classy; yet groove worthy and downright satisfying. The project crescendos with “Take A Look” which is produced by and featuring Fedarro Noel. Unsurprisingly, the album's second half continues to keep your ears attentive. “What I Like” featuring Sincere Grant offers a spontaneous change in sequence which intensifies the tracks potential. "Just Relax" is a rendition of the classic joint by Tony, Toni, and Tone’s “Lay Your Head On My Pillow.” The tempo slows down once you get to the erotic “Make Me Say” featuring Mai Lee, which is one of the better songs in awhile about being sprung: I’m stepping out the shower waiting on your phone call, boy you got me soaking wet (I’m so ready for you)/Got me thinking about the last time, how you had me feenin.’
I almost had to start myself.” Another highlight is "Still In Love," which more than lives up to the album’s title; in fact, the song's lyrics capture the very essence of maturity and growth in Mr. Barker’s content. It begins with a sample of Luther Vandross’ timeless hit “A House Is Not A Home.” It’s about a young man who reveals his insecurities and personal issues with love and intimacy. It’s also about the acquisition of material wealth and possessions. He asks his lover the question, “If I lost it all, would you still love me?” The album dismounts with the sneaky and sensual bonus track “Exclusive.” A song about a cheating couple that desire to be together in the midst of being involved in committed relationships. This one is as real as it gets. Masterfully produced by Fedarro Noel with additional vocals by Mai Lee, this joint is arguably one of the best songs on the whole album.
If you have any of his previous albums, this one is a must-own; especially if you're looking to add some new grown and sexy music to your collection, Grown Folks Business lives up to its name without any vulgar, obscene or distasteful content. Two thumbs up!
