TIMBRE LINES- "crunchy folk"
up, out of the soft hills of Vermont, michael mrowicki's music arises from the American folk tradition...
From Asbury Park, NJ to Putney, Vermont, the sprit of music has lived large in mrowicki's life and music... he's always sought to represent the musical mosaic that is folk with finger-picked guitar and voice... his original songs evolve rhythmically, melodically, and lyrically from influences ranging from the Mississippi Delta to the Delta of Venus.
Timbre Lines, is his second album of originals and has been described as "crunchy folk...tasty but not smooth and creamy...the kind you'd hear on a back porch or in a living room".
It features tunes rooted in Americana, with songs that are at once, friendly, probing, puzzling and even humorous- . From the joyous clarinet on "Let's Get Naked" to the dirty faced grit and snappy guitar chops of "Blind Man's Room" and "The Banshees Cry" , the songs dig deep into American folk roots.
Growing from those same roots , are the sweet fruits of the soft and melodious "and, then Rumi" and "Summer". The music evokes moods of times shared, with gratitude,on a journey that sees love doesn't work lived from a "Blind Man's Room", then moves to the question, "How Do We Get There ?"and finally finds hope and rest in "Grandfather's Rose's".
mrowicki's music continues to evolve from within those soft hills and gentle people of Vermont, marking his own journey trying to bridge the spirit between heaven and earth-touching the ethereal with both feet grounded on a path with heart
. ..as a man trying to live an examined life - as a father, lover, worker and community participant, these songs hold the mirror up for him-and perhaps others.
Dancing with the dilemmas sprouting from the desire to make art while making a living, the songs also hold up the struggle of "the worried well" in a country of such extremes -in a world of contradictions- in a universe of harmony.
The hope underlying all is predicated on seeing the humor and connection in life that arises out of situations such as becoming a parent and realizing why no one talks about all the sleep one will have to do without for the next 18 years ... or seeing that the benefit of an outdoor ambient temperature of 27 below is allowing us to realize that 5 below really isn't so bad...and neither is the sleep one loses as a parent when juxtaposed with the deep and lasting joys of raising children.
