THE MSD QUINTET is a contemporary jazz ensemble that has been together for 3 years, influenced by the YELLOWJACKETS, THE PAT METHENY GROUP, WEATHER REPORT, MILES DAVIS, HERBIE HANCOCK, and a host of other jazz greats.
DRIVEN is the first recording of MSDQ, and it brings together a compilation of musical ideas created during the ensemble’s existence. DRIVEN was produced by Jimmy Haslip of the YELLOWJACKETS, and is joined by fellow YELLOWJACKETS member Russell Ferrante on the title track. Other guest musicians include Munyungo Jackson and Michito Sanchez on percussion, along with Matt Hagerty on guitar. DRIVEN was recorded by Jon Duva at Power Station New England in Waterford CT. Additional recording was by Joe Miklovic at Studio Chromatique in Newport, RI, and Rich Breen at Dogmatic Studio in Burbank, CA. Rich Breen also mixed and mastered DRIVEN.
THE MSD QUINTET is…
Doug Woolverton – trumpet/flugelhorn
Jon Lavieri – tenor sax
D.J. Cordeiro – drums
Peter Davis – bass
Michael Johnson – keyboards
